So, I was scrolling through my feed on instagram when I came across this...
Now, granted this isn't the most popular meme I have seen. It is in-fact a bit sexist. Generally speaking, memes represent a certain sense of humor shared between teens and other people in their 20s and 30s. For the most part these memes use a strong sense of sarcasm and usually mock or make fun of serious issues, such as the Notorious Coronavirus. But there are also a great deal of memes stereotyping Women and Men, Backs, Latinos, and even White people. In this particular meme by Failsclip, the so to speak artist uses an image of Spongebob, simply getting up out of his chair as an analogy for women starting arguments. Additionally the pinned comment on the post says, "It's like a hobby to them". This is an offensive stereotype about women. Although the memes purpose is for humor, this meme sends a sexist message to women and implies that they argue too much. This could lead to one feeling that they shouldn't share their opinion for it could start an argument. This concludes my first post, I will be posting weekly regarding similar memes in the next few weeks.
